Add Inspiration to Your Classroom Theme With These Christian Bulletin Board Ideas

Bulletin boards serve as focal points in the classroom for students, parents and visitors. But most bulletin boards leave a lot to be desired. Teachers recycle the same old ideas year after year or leave up seasonal bulletin boards far beyond their expiration date. (Snowmen in March?)

To avoid the bulletin board blues, try these fun and inspirational Christian bulletin board ideas. They will add a bit of something different to your bulletin boards this year and inspire other teachers to step up their game.

Fruits of the Spirit Galatians 5:22-23 list the fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Use this passage to create a bulletin board that helps students live out these fruits of the Holy Spirit in their daily lives.

Start with either a tree design or grape vines and leaves. Use a different fruit or grapes to represent each fruit. Then, list ideas for how to live out these ideals in the school community. You can pin up names of students who have demonstrated a fruit of the Spirit or turn it into a classroom challenge, urging students to find new ways to live out their Christian ideals.

A Month of Proverbs Another of our favorite Christian bulletin board ideas is to use the Book of Proverbs. This book serves to inspire us all with 31 chapters, one for each day of the week.

This bulletin board will grow each day as you distill each chapter into a life lesson for students. For older students, you can turn this into a collaborative project, assigning students specific chapters to read, summarize, teach to the class and add to the bulletin board in a creative, graphic form.

Giving ownership to students make the bulletin board more dynamic and turns it into more than a visual students and teachers pass by on their way to class.

Judge the Judges  A sometimes overlooked book of the Bible, but one that tends to hold the attention of students, is the book of Judges. This book chronicles the tales of the 12 major and minor judges, appointed by God to deliver the Israelis from their oppressors.

These stories end with the good guys prevailing, the bad guys getting their due, and some blood and gore in between. You can create several bulletin boards with the themes from Judges. Consider:

  • Casting each judge as a superhero, assigning "powers," rivals and creating a superhero outfit;
  • Creating a courtroom scene with the judges as the Supreme Court and the oppressors as the defendants;
  • Or draw graphic novel panels depicting the judges' actions;

Christian bulletin board ideas can liven up your walls this school year and also serve to inspire students to acts of kindness, inner reflection and standing up for their faith.
